Original Hits by Original Artists is returning for an encore performance at Arundel Books during September 2017. The show will open on First Thursday, September 7. So, if you missed seeing it during the Upstream Festival in May, now’s your chance! Will the excitement never end?
You’ll have a chance to see Sex Lives of Barnacles in person, and lots of other FAKE album covers for IMAGINARY bands by REAL artists.

Guess what time it is… Time for the annual 100 Under 100 show at ’57 Biscayne! Come snatch up one of 100 pieces of art priced at less than $100 created by the fabulous denizens and guests ofthe ’57 Biscayne studios. Art includes drawings, paintings, tintypes, photo and media constructions, tin collage, and more. AND, you get to take it home that very night!
Most of us will be hosting open studios that night, so come say ‘Howdy’, and see what we’re working on. It’ll be like an artist petting zoo. With wine! Which totally sounds weird, but isn’t. I promise.

When I decided to make large multi-panel paintings, I really didn't have a plan for making the panels. I looked into buying pre-made panels from art suppliers, but realized they would become very expensive, very quickly. I decided I should make my own panels. Since I had no wood working tools, and didn't know how to use them, I bought tempered hardboard and 1x2s at Dunn Lumber, had them cut down to size, and glued the panels in my kitchen.
Now that I have a studio, I have invested in some power tools, including a chop saw and a router. Panel building is still time consuming, but kind of meditative and zen. I've been working on the chopping and gluing for about a week. Each piece dries for 30 minutes before I can move it, and then cures for 24 hours before I can put any sort of strain on it, meaning I can't go on to the next step. Tomorrow, I will rout the edges!

Original Hits by Original Artists opens tonightin the Good Arts Building at 700 1st Avenue, the corner of 1st and Cherry. The REAL artists of ’57 Biscayne (myself included) and Biscayne associates have created FAKE LP album covers for IMAGINARY bands. Mine, of course, has a marine theme. But, we’re not posting any images before the official opening, so you’ll have to come check it out if you want to see the coolness!
There are 33 1/3 of them, and you’ll be able to see them first tonight, May 4th, during the First Thursday festivities 6-9 pm. We’ll also have the studios of ’57 Biscayne open, so come on up and say hello!
The show will also be open May 11-13 during the Upstream Music Festival, and we’ll have free live music.
